wrinkle relaxers

botox, dysport & letybo

  • What is Botox and what does it do?

    What is Botox?

Neuromodulators are often referred to as “Botox” - which is a brand name; as is Dysport, Letybo, Nuceiva and Xeomin.

We offer Botox®, Dysport®, and Letybo® at the symm label which are all neuromodulators approved by Health Canada. These purified proteins are used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by decreasing muscle movement in targeted areas of the face.

Neuromodulators do not paralyze muscles - they temporarily block the transmission of nerve impulses & reception where the neurotoxin is injected to relax the muscles.

  • What areas of the face can you treat with botox?

    Treatment Areas

    • Forehead lines

    • Frown lines

    • Crows feet

    • Brow lift

    • Bunny lines

    • Pucker lines (around lips)

    • Lip flip (for a fuller lip)

    • Gummy smile

    • Downturned mouth (DAO)

    • Chin dimpling

    • Facial Slimming (Masseters),

    • Jawline

    • Neck lines & jowls (Nefertiti Lift)

Treatment areas vary for each person based on their unique structure & desired outcome. Often multiple areas are treated to ensure optimal results.

  • What does a botox treatment look like and what does it do?

    Treatment Overview

Your Nurse Injector will review areas of concern and explain the treatment plan built exclusively for your facial structure, muscle strength, and desired end results.

Prior to treatment, the face is cleansed thoroughly and your Nurse Injector will mark out the injection sites. A small needle is used to administer the product which feels like tiny pinches or pokes. Treatment typically takes 5-20 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.

Immediately post treatment you may have some mild swelling and redness which is perfectly normal. There is no downtime expected.

  • What results should I expect with botox and how long will it last?

    Results & Longevity

Results typically take up to two weeks to set in fully & last 3-4 months. Dosing required for effective results with the best longevity of treatment is unique to each patient.

Although neuromodulators takes up to two full weeks for the full effects to set in - Some people will start seeing results in a few days, and others will take the full two weeks. It is important not to dose again prior to the two week treatment mark.

Treatment efficacy & longevity depends on many factors including dosing, muscle strength, lifestyle habits (sleep, diet/water, exercise, age genetics), stress, metabolism, time between treatments, etc.

botox FAQ

Still have questions? You know what to do...
  • Yes, Wrinkle Relaxers are safe treatments. Botox is a FDA regulated drug and highly tested. However, clients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain neurological conditions should not receive Botox - this will be discussed in your intake forms & consultation as well.

No, you will not look numb or frozen - Your desired results will be discussed with your Injector and we will dose appropriately. Years of experience ensures we can accurately and effectively dose your muscles to ensure great results without a frozen effect. If it is your first time we often will start lighter and then can top you up (if needed) at your two week appointment to make you feel more comfortable :)

  • Side effects are minimal - if at all. Some patients may get some redness, irritation, swelling or pinpoint bruising at the injection site which will disappear over time, often within a couple hours.

Patients may feel a mild headache or a feeling of “heaviness” after Botox - this is normal and will subside over a few days. You can take Tylenol for any minor discomfort post treatment.

  • Anyone over the age of 18 who is interested in the treatment - it’s YOUR face!

There is no “right time” for Botox. Botox is most effective for the prevention of lines and wrinkles rather than when these have already formed and can be great for preventative aging. But it is never too late to start - Our Nurse Injectors will explain how treatment can help any patient at any stage of life!

  • Botox treatments are brief and have minimal discomfort. There is no recovery time and patients can return to work immediately. Some patients even book treatments over their lunch break!

Ultra-fine needles are used to administer the product so there is minimal pain. We can use ice post treatment to reduce any discomfort & minimal swelling.

  • We charge $10 per unit. Most treatments range from 25 - 100 units.

Cost for treatment depends entirely on dosing - Things like muscle strength, number of treatment areas, age, current skin condition and more all effect dosing. This is all discussed in detail with your Nurse Injector and a cost specific to your required dosing will be provided at your complimentary consultation.

Keep in mind - Dosing impacts efficacy & longevity. If you opt for a smaller dose - You may not get as good of results & they product will not last as long, meaning you will have to come for a second treatment sooner. Remember: Dose = Duration!

  • Our Nurse Injectors are all Registered Nurses and have taken extensive training in injectables including specific courses for facial anatomy & neuromodulator dosing.

Our Nurses all work under the direction & supervision of our Owner & Advanced Nurse Injector, Jillian Schenk as well as our Medical Director, Dr. Joseph MacDonald.

This is what our Nurses do - All day, every day. You are in great hands with our team!

  • Although there is no specific preparation required before treatment, we recommend getting a good nights sleep, being well hydrated, and having something to eat prior to treatment. This just ensures you feel your best!

Avoiding alcohol & too much caffeine prior to treatment can also minimize bruising. Yes, you can still have a coffee, but maybe stick to one cup ;)

You can come make up free if you’d like, but we will thoroughly cleanse the area prior to treatment.

  • We provide post-care instructions after your treatment. But in general we recommend - No strenuous activity for 24 hours, avoid hot tubs/saunas/steam showers for 24 hours, do not lie flat for 4 hours, avoid wearing a hat or anything that will press on the treatment areas for 4 hours, do not have any facial treatments/massage for 24 hours.

These recommendations are to ensure the product stays where it was injected - and the muscles are not manipulated to move the product around.

  • If it is your first time getting Botox, or your first time at our clinic, we always recommend a two-week follow up appointment. The appointment is free of charge.

This appointment allows us to compare your before and after photos, go over any concerns you have, and if necessary (although not common) top up your dose to ensure everything is sitting absolutely perfectly! Everyone is different so the product will take effect differently - We want to ensure you at 100% happy with your results and this appointment ensures we can do that.

  • Results typically take 3-7 days to set in but can take up to 2 weeks for full effect.

Typically 3-4 months but treatment effect varies for each patient. Botox tends to last longer the more consistently you book treatment.

  • Treatment efficacy & longevity depends on many factors including dosing, muscle strength, lifestyle habits (sleep, diet/water, exercise, age genetics), time between treatments, etc.

If you have any concerns with your results - Talk to your Nurse Injector! This feedback allows your Injector to assess your dosing, treatment areas, and treatment plan to ensure you get the most out of your treatment. We want to work with you to make sure you are happy with your results & get the most out of your money spent!
